Location: Drayton Valley, Alberta, Canada
Status: Under Construction
The Clean Energy Technology Centre (CETC) is the flagship building for the Drayton Valley Bio-Mile, a 19.3 hectare bio-industrial research park specializing in the conversion and refining of bio-mass into bio-energy, bio-chemicals, and bio-fuels.
The CETC will function as the administrative centre for the entire development as well as the business incubator for new companies and existing industry looking to diversify. By offering management and administrative assistance, networking resourses, financial advise, research information and technical support, the CETC will act as the central hub that facilitates the successful and synergistic development of the businesses within the Bio-Mile. The CETC will also act as a meeting point for other businesses, educational institutions and government agencies conducting research in clean technology.
The multipurpose event space will accomodate large public events such as lectures, weddings, trade shows, and graduations. Additionally, the facility will have the ability to host more intimate events, such as small receptions, group meetings and seminars.
The college wing, designed as a satellite campus for Norquest College, strives to be a forward looking progressive facility, incorporating training labs, digital technologies, open, collaborative learning environments and technology focused library facilities.
As part of the Bio-Mile's holistic sustainable design approach, the CETC building has been designed to optimize daylight harvesting and passive ventilation. In terms of construction, the building will incorporate biomass based materials such as hemp block and bio-textile panels as well as resource-efficient engineered lumber products for the structure. Heating and cooling, as well as electricity, will be provided by bio-fuel based boilers.
